Ferrari has stated that the decision to withhold the Balance of Performance (BoP) data during the 2026 World Endurance Championship (WEC) will significantly affect the narrative of the races. This week, it was made public that the WEC will not publish the BoP figures, keeping this information private between teams and organization.
Previously, the championship provided detailed tables before each event, specifying the weight and power of each hypercar. The situation with the BoP has always been controversial, as the WEC has to manage competition between vehicles built under different regulations, such as LMDh and LMH.
Moreover, teams and drivers were prohibited from commenting on the BoP according to the sporting regulations. Antonello Coletta, head of Ferrari Endurance and Corse Clienti, stated that, although they cannot speak about the BoP, he would prefer that fans had more information about the details of the races. “Clearly, we would all like to know more about what happens behind the scenes. Unfortunately, this will be a part missing from the competition narrative,” he added.
The new WEC season begins this weekend in Italy, replacing the Qatar round, which was scheduled for March. Ferrari, the reigning champion, faces significant pressure at home, with much to learn about its updated 499P model, which has been modified with new aerodynamics and Michelin tires.
Coletta emphasized the importance of staying calm in the team while maintaining confidence in Ferrari’s strength. “Starting the fourth season as defending champions is a great pride. We know we have the obligation to win, and we must do everything possible to achieve it,” he noted.
The Ferrari head reflects on the challenge posed by new homologations, acknowledging that their performance against the competition is not guaranteed. “We are starting from scratch, and we must be ready for the pressure. The world of racing is not easy, and we must continue learning and working to improve every day,” he assured.
Despite dominating the initial tests, Coletta warns that it is prudent to be wary of any rush to interpret the times: “The results of the tests need to be analyzed cautiously, as some teams have hidden their true pace. What matters is the result of the race on Sunday, not the practice times.”
The pressure on the team is palpable, with a set of high goals and a fan base eager for a good start to the season at home. “We know we represent one of the most important brands in the world, and it’s crucial that we do not disappoint our supporters,” Coletta concluded.
