Ferrari has announced the departure of Enrico Cardile amid Aston Martin rumours, as Frederic Vasseur fill take up the interim role.
The rumours about Cardline potentially leaving Ferrari to join Aston Martin was around for few weeks now and team boss Vasseur was even asked about the same post the F1 British GP on Sunday, where he insisted on the Italian being part of the team.
But a day later on Monday, Ferrari has announced and confirmed the departure of its technical director of chassis area – Cardile – with immediate effect. In the interim, it was be team boss Vasseur who will have to take charge of the chassis department.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Enrico Cardile is leaving the company, therefore relinquishing his role as Technical Director Chassis Area,” said a team statement. “After almost two decades with Ferrari, Cardile has handed in his notice and therefore, with immediate effect, and as an interim measure, the Chassis Area will be overseen by the Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur. Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP thanks Enrico for all his hard work over so many years.”
Cardile has been part of the Ferrari family since 2005 when he first joined the GT programme. He moved on to the F1 project in 2016 and has been a key part of the technical department ever since until its current departure after over 20 years of service.
“If Aston Martin want to communicate on something, I’m happy for them,” said Vasseur after the British GP on Sunday – before Monday’s announcement. “But it’s not our case today, he’s part of the organisation. The role…you know the role of Enrico, he was the technical director on the chassis side. Tonight, he’s still Technical Director of the Ferrari.”
