In a session interrupted by two red flags, Pietro Fantin recorded the fastest time of the session by almost half a second over Matthieu Vaxivière, setting a new lap record in the process of 1:43.056. Current series leader Oliver Rowland returns after a foray into GP2, though only managing 6th quickest.
The first red flag was brought about by Jazeman Jaafar, who came to a stop in sector two after setting his personal best sector 1. The break in the session lasted 5 minutes before the lights went green once more. With a few minutes left, Tio Ellinas also stopped in the second sector, once more summoning a red flag and almost bringing a premature end to the first collective test, however with three minutes left the track became green again, allowing for drivers to set one more flying lap.
Will Bratt takes over from Roberto Mehri in the Pons Racing machine, setting a time 8 and a half seconds off the pace in his return to single seaters. Unable to set a time though was Nick Yelloly, who’s switched over from GP2 this weekend. The Lotus WSR driver completed 5 laps, but no time was recorded.
