Carlin’s Yuki Tsunoda comes through to win FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship sprint race at Silverstone as MP Motorsport’s Bent Viscaal does it in FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship.

F2:

Reverse-grid pole-sitter Prema’s Robert Shwartzman held the sprint F2 race lead at cloudy Silverstone from Mick Schumacher and Carlin’s Yuki Tsunoda as Campos Racing’s Jack Aitken held fourth from fast-starting ART Grand Prix’s Christian Lundgaard.

The Dane not only passed a slow-starter Hitech GP’s Nikita Mazepin but also Charouz’s Louis Deletraz with UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Guanyu Zhou in seventh from Mazepin as DAMS; Dan Ticktum made a superb start from 15th to be ninth.

F2 feature race winner UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Callum Ilott dropped places to be 10th ahead of Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala. The field steadied on as a brief yellow was waved for Charouz’s Pedro Piquet spinning after getting into a tangle with Trident’s Roy Nissany.

At the same time, Schumacher had a wild moment that he managed to save while chasing Shwartzman for the lead. The fight behind got intensified with Lundgaard struggling as he lost out to Deletraz and even Zhou, after a hefty wheel-to-wheel tussle.

The move from Zhou around the outside at Maggots was sublime to be sixth as just behind Ilott and Mazepin tangled which allowed Ticktum to pass the Russian for ninth. The incident was noted by the stewards after complaints from both the F2 drivers.

As Shwartzman led Schumacher, Aitken started to come under pressure from Deletraz and Zhou in the fight for fourth as Ilott got seventh after an off from Lundgaard. But moments later, the Danish driver’s front-left let go fully which forced him to retire.

The F2 lead battle ended into a collision as Schumacher tried a move around the outside but his rear-left touched the front wing of Shwartzman as Tsunoda made the most to take the lead with the German and Russian hanging on in second and third.

The incident was under investigation but it was deemed as a racing incident with Tsunoda eventually coming through to register his first win in F2 as Schumacher ended up second from Aitken, who resisted the Deletraz and Zhou pressure well.

The Chinese racer almost got the Swiss driver but hung on in fourth as Ilott was sixth from Ticktum and Mazepin in the points position with Daruvala and Ghiotto rounding out the Top 10. There was a later spin from MP Motorsport’s Nobuharu Matsushita as well.

F3:

Reverse-grid pole-sitter Carlin’s Ben Barnicoat couldn’t held onto to the lead in sprint F3 race at Silverstone as Trident’s Lirim Zendelli passed him to take top spot from MP Motorsport’s Bent Viscaal and ART’s Theo Pourchaire.

Before getting into thick of things, a safety car was deployed after a clash between MP Motorsport’s Lukas Dunner and Jenzer’s Calan Williams. At the same time, Campos’ Alex Peroni clashed with ART’s Aleksandr Smolyar, both needing to pit then after.

Peroni was also handed a 10 second stop and go penalty for safety car infringement. Upon re-start, Zendelli headed the pack from Viscaal, Pourchaire, Barnicoat and Trident’s David Beckmann, while Hitech GP’s Liam Lawson and Prema’s Oscar Piastri dueled for sixth.

The Australian went wide in a clash but both managed to continue. Just outside the Top 10, F3 title contender Prema’s Logan Sargeant was forced to retire after a clash with Carlin’s Cameron Das while fighting for 11th after the feature race winner dropped places at start.

A Virtual Safety Car was deployed when Barnicoat slowed to retire as Zendelli led the way from Viscaal, Pourchaire, Beckmann, Lawson and Piastri in the Top 6. It was all to play for in the front as the F3 field was bunched up close together.

The lead changed hands on the final lap at Copse when Viscaal made the move on Zendelli to secure his first F3 win as Pourchaire held off the charge from Beckmann and Lawson to keep third despite having lost it at one moment to his rivals.

Piastri fell off to be seventh after defending well from Prema’s Frederick Vesti, who lost to HWA Racelab’s Jake Hughes in the dying stages. Carlin’s Clement Novalak was ninth with HWA Racelab’s Enzo Fittipaldi rounding out the Top 10 position.
