F1 has confirmed that there will be no Chinese GP for the 2023 season amid COVID-19 situation continuing in the country.
As was being reported and expected, F1 has confirmed the cancellation of the 2023 Chinese GP due to ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country. This is the fourth straight year when there will be no grand prix in China due to the worldwide virus trouble.
F1 held constant dialogue with the promoters in this period and decided that no grand prix can take place in this period after the COVID-19 scare popped up again in the country. The sport is now assessing if they can replace the event or leave it as it is.
There has been speculation about Portugal being interested to replace, but there is no confirmation about the same as yet. “Formula 1 can confirm, following dialogue with the promoter and relevant authorities, that the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix will not take place due to the ongoing difficulties presented by the COVID-19 situation.
“Formula 1 is assessing alternative options to replace the slot on the 2023 calendar and will provide an update on this in due course,” said the statement from F1.
