E1 Championship: Summary of Season 2’s Round 3 at Indianapolis

E1 Championship

A summary of how things panned out in Round 3 of the E1 Championship is here.

Our very first Oval race produced exciting and compelling racing with the top four crossing the line after an hour and a half barely separated by two tenths of a second. There were 10 safety car periods for the Indy 200 for Round 3 of E1.

Championship leader, Muhammad Ibrahim from India made it three poles out of pole with another great performance in qualifying. In the race, Ibrahim struggled for pace to match his qualifying performance but was also unlucky with some contact during the race. He would eventually finish 12th.

At the front, Muhammad Naquib from Malaysia took his first win of season two with a measured drive. He was just outside the top ten for the opening laps of the race where he admittedly was conserving fuel in the race. But with 30 laps to go he pitted during a safety car, despite there being question marks on whether he could have enough fuel to go to the end.

However another safety car allowed him to ensure he had enough fuel to the end and once the pit stops had cycled through, Naquib found himself in the lead. He had tremendous pressure over the last few laps from Ariff Azmi and Josh Purwien but was able to stay in front. Naquib would win from Azmi with Alister Yoong in third to make it an all Malaysian podium.
