The organisers of the Dutch GP have officially postponed the 2020 F1 race to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where the tickets will remain valid.

Joining the likes of Monaco and France, the promoters of Dutch GP have officially canceled the 2020 F1 race and postponed it to 2021 instead. The much fancied return of refurbished Circuit Zandvoort will have to wait due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new date will be announced by the FIA as per their timeline but Dutch GP organisers will keep the tickets from 2020 valid for the 2021 event. It is only the third F1 grand prix to be officially not taking place this year, whereas some others yet to confirm.

The statement from Dutch GP goes: “Due to the worldwide spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix has, as previously announced, been postponed. The organization of the Dutch Grand Prix, in consultation with Formula One Management, has had to conclude that it is no longer possible to hold a race with an audience this year.

“Therefore, it has been decided to postpone the race definitively to 2021. Together with the motorsport federation FIA, Formula One Management will determine the schedule for 2021 and with that the new date of the Dutch Grand Prix. Like every year the date will be announced by the FIA by the end of 2020. All tickets remain valid for the new race.”

The postponement of Dutch GP doesn’t comes as a surprise as various comments and reports suggested the same. Even some of the proposed F1 calendars for 2020 didn’t feature Netherlands with Austria likely to kick-start things in July.

Among others, races in United Kingdom, Hungary, Spain, Italy and Belgium, is said to take place, while Germany seems to be on standby if any of the other F1 host nations pull out. There is confirmation still to come, as it all depends on the respective Governments.
