The second race of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at Spa-Francorchamps started behind the Safety Car. The rain, which began about an hour before the start, was just too much. After more than 15 minutes behind the safety car the race was stopped, as the conditions were hardly improving.
Accordingly, the race result corresponds to the result of the second qualifying session. Only half points were awarded because only 50% of the race was run.
With his fifth win championshipleader Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) increased his lead over his teammate Kevin Jörg. Jörg finished third and is now 44 points behind Delétraz. Second in the race was Saturday’s winner Max Defourny (ART Junior team). The 16-year-old was on the podium twice this weekend at his home track. He also got the trophy for the best Rookie again and is 7,5 points in the overall standings ahead of the other rookies.
Fourth place went to Alex Gill (Fortec Motorsports) before Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) and Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports). Seventh was Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team) before Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec
Motorsports), who finished third yesterday.
Newcomer Kevin Kleveros (Prizma Motorsport) dropped out with technical problems. Ferdinand Habsburg (Fortec Motorsports) lost the car in aquaplaning but could rejoin after repairs.
- Louis Deletraz (#14) Josef Kaufmann Racing: “Half points is half points which is better than none, but the conditions were really terrible and I could not even follow the Safety Car. At the end it got a bit better but it was the right decision.”
- Max Defourny (#33) ART Junior Team: “The first lap was really hard, lots of aquaplaning. I would have really like to race. But to be on the podium twice in front of my home crowd makes me happy. I hope more podium finishes next week.”
- Kevin Jorg (#15) Josef Kaufmann Racing: “It was so much rain and water on the track I couldn’t even see the car in front of me. So it was probably a good decision to stop the race. Hope for better weather at Assen next week.”

The teams will go directly to Assen (Holland) where they will race, like last year, in front of approximately 80.000 expected spectators at the Gamma Racing Day
