Yamaha has announced the appointment of David Munoz as the new team leader for Jorge Martin for the 2027 season. Munoz, who currently serves as the crew chief for Alex Rins, is a strategic choice to assist Martin in his transition to the Japanese machine.
With the MotoGP rider market largely settled for 2027, teams are beginning to focus on technical restructuring. Martin’s move, having been selected to replace Fabio Quartararo after his departure to Honda, is shaping up to be one of the most significant changes of the winter.
Martin debuted in the top category in 2021 with Pramac Ducati and, after winning the MotoGP championship title in 2024, made his switch to Aprilia. He now joins Yamaha, where he will team up with Ai Ogura.
Munoz, who was hired by Yamaha in 2020 at the suggestion of Valentino Rossi, has proven his worth alongside top-level riders. Martin will also bring with him his trusted mechanic, David Galacho, known as ‘Malaguita’.
