The driver David Malukas has suffered a severe accident during the initial practice session of the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix at the Nashville Superspeedway. His condition has raised concerns, but he is currently in stable condition.

According to the latest news, Malukas has been transferred to a local hospital where he is awake and alert. The accident occurred with approximately 40 minutes remaining in the session, in which Malukas was in second place with a lap time of 196.340 mph on this 1.33-mile oval.

Entering the second corner, the Chicago driver lost control of the vehicle, causing him to spin and collide forcefully with the outer wall. The impact was so violent that his knee struck the steering wheel, which disconnected due to the collision. Despite the severity of the accident, he was able to walk away on his own with the help of the AMR safety team.

In addition to the impact on Malukas, the crash damaged the SAFER Barrier, which required repairs that halted the session for more than 20 minutes. The competition officials decided to extend the practice time by 10 minutes after the required repairs.

Reports from FOX Sports indicate that Malukas entered the corner at 201 mph, with an estimated impact speed of between 130 and 140 mph. It remains to be determined if the Team Penske will have to replace his vehicle with a backup, as Malukas had already been penalized with a nine-place grid penalty for an unauthorized engine change.

Currently, Malukas sits in fourth place in the IndyCar championship standings, with two podiums this season and three top 10 finishes in the three oval races this year.
