Dani Juncadella will become new driver of the Formula E team, Mahindra. He will do it as reserve and simulator driver. Mahindra will have a third driver for the first season. Mahindra has Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist as his two official drivers, who are gonna have as new partner Dani Juncadella.
Another good news for the Spanish driver, after being confirmed as a Mercedes driver for the current season of the DTM. Before this was confirmed, Juncadella expressed on some occasions his desire to try in a discipline such as Formula E. In fact, Juncadella has made two tests with the Mahindra team.
First one was during the preseason tests that Formula E made in Valencia and in which Dani drive in Nick Heidfeld’s car. The Indian team again count on the services of Dani Juncadella for the Marrakech tests, in which he obtained the sixth fastest time of the session.
Dani joins a team which he has some things in common. Mahindra team is managed by Campos Racing, a Spanish team, like the driver. In addition, the results are accompanying the Indian team who is in second place in the 2018 constructors’ championship.
The movment to Mahindra is not official but it is expected an statement confirming the news soon. Juncadella will combine his role as reserve and simulator driver, with his new seat with Mercedes in the DTM World Championship. Precisely his team in the German championship, leaves the DTM to enter in Formula E next year.
The experience of Dani in this type of car can give him a plus to be an aspirant to occupy one of the seats of Mercedes in his new adventure in 2019 in Formula E. It will also depend on his performance in the DTM, where he starts with options to fight for the championship.
