Casey Stoner, legendary MotoGP rider and multiple-time winner at the Phillip Island circuit, has expressed his intention to “fight” to see this mythical track return to the MotoGP calendar. This news comes at a time when plans have been confirmed to move the Australian Grand Prix to Adelaide starting in 2027.

Phillip Island is considered the true soul of the race, with a history dating back to 1989, except for some interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the editions held at Eastern Creek during the 90s. This year’s race, scheduled for two weeks from now, could be the last at this iconic circuit.

Stoner, who dominated at Phillip Island with six consecutive wins between 2007 and 2012, is not willing to accept its removal from the calendar without a fight. In a joint promotional video with fellow ex-rider Chris Vermeulen, Stoner expressed his disappointment over Phillip Island’s removal, stating that “it’s extremely disappointing” and emphasizes that “he will fight to get it back.”

While acknowledging that the circuit might require some improvements, such as an upgrade of the pit facilities, Stoner believes the quality of competition at Phillip Island is undeniable. ‘Every year, the circuit provides some of the best races. It’s surprising that it wants to be replaced by an urban circuit,’ he added.

His ability to influence the return of the circuit is uncertain, but he is not the only rider who has expressed concerns about changes to the calendar. Currently, Toprak Razgatlioglu has mentioned his interest in bringing back the MotoGP race to Turkey, planning to add it to the 2028 calendar.
