The renowned rally driver, Carlos Sainz, will participate in the Rally de Asturias Historic as part of a celebration dedicated to his legendary career. The event will take place this weekend in Spain, where Sainz will drive a Ford Puma Rally1, the latest generation of vehicles from the World Rally Championship.

This commemoration of the 1990 and 1992 world champion is planned to pay tribute to his contribution to the world of rallies. Sainz, 64 years old, will compete alongside his historic co-driver, Luis Moya, in a tarmacked rally that will include a total of 126.66 kilometers of competitive route.

In a recent social media post, Sainz expressed his gratitude for the recognition and his excitement about this opportunity. ‘There isn’t much time left for the historic rally in Asturias in Pravia. They have decided to dedicate the event to my career, which I deeply appreciate,’ said the driver.

Moreover, Sainz noted that after many years without competing on tarmac, he is eager to try this new machine before its homologation runs out at the end of the year. ‘I am excited to see the car and try it. We hope to see you all in Asturias,’ he added.

Throughout his intense career, Sainz has accumulated a total of 196 participations in the WRC, including 26 victories and 97 podiums, driving for teams like Toyota, Subaru, Lancia, Ford, and Citroën. After retiring from the WRC in 2005, he has continued competing in rally-raid disciplines, highlighting his victory in the Dakar Rally four times (2010, 2018, 2020, 2024).

In the current season, Sainz is part of Ford’s program in the World Rally-Raid Championship, holding the ninth position in the championship standings.
