Carlos Sainz has shared his vision for the future outside of Formula 1, revealing his desire to compete in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Currently a driver for Williams, the Spanish racer has opened his heart about his aspirations in a recent episode of the podcast Team Torque with his teammate, Alex Albon.
In response to questions about his long-term goals, Sainz stated: “I see that I will compete in another category”. When Albon pressed if he had a ‘wish list’, Sainz did not hesitate to express his interest in Le Mans.
In addition to his ambition to participate in the premium Hypercar class, the driver considered the idea of embarking on a GT3 campaign with some friends, stating that he might enjoy the experience.
“I would love to experience motorsport from another perspective once I retire from F1”, Sainz reflected. He emphasized that this is about enjoying motorsport without the current pressures and responsibilities. “They can race just for fun”, he concluded.
These statements come at a difficult time for Sainz, who is currently in 15th position in the drivers’ championship with only six points. Williams occupies ninth position in the constructors’ championship with 11 points. Formula 1 is now in a summer break period, and will resume with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort from August 21 to 23.
