Rafael Camara has had a promising start to his first season in Formula 2, a fact that has recently been recognized by Ferrari, which offered him the opportunity to conduct his first test with a Formula 1 car.
After a dominant season in FIA Formula 3 with Trident, Camara has made the jump to F2 with Invicta Racing, where he currently occupies second place in the standings, 21 points behind championship leader Gabriele Mini, after three races.
Before the last test in Montreal, the Ferrari academy driver had the opportunity to test the Scuderia’s Formula 1 car, the SF-25, during a two-day test at the Hungaroring.
“It was a very special moment for me,” Camara stated ahead of the fourth F2 race in Monaco. “The main goal was simply to make laps, understand how everything works and get a feel for the Formula 1 car.”
The 21-year-old Brazilian highlighted that he had a good test time, combining performance laps with long race simulations. “I think it was a great learning opportunity, working with many different people and getting to know their ways of working,” he added.
Additionally, Camara has expressed his enthusiasm for being part of a Formula 1 team, emphasizing that he has learned many things during these test sessions.
In his fifth year as a Ferrari academy driver, Camara has been linked with the Haas team, with speculation that he could join the team mid-2026 season. However, the driver remains reserved about his future.
“I just focus on my work. Even if I win or we get top three or two we’ll still see, so we just focus on getting the best results this year with no regrets,” commented Camara. “After all, if you’re a good driver you’re ready for anything.”
The next logical step for Camara would be an appearance in free practice with Haas or Ferrari. He admitted that this could be a possibility. “Maybe,” he said when asked. “I might know more later, maybe closer to Austria, then I’ll have a clearer idea.”
