The NASCAR Cup Series has redefined its starting grid for the Bristol Night Race, with Kyle Larson in first place. Adverse weather conditions, including lightning and rain, forced organizers to cancel qualifying, so the grid has been set using a metric scoring method.
On this occasion, the method is based on a weighted average of the drivers’ ranking (30%) and their result in the last race (70%). Kyle Larson, who achieved victory in the last race at Gateway, and currently holds second place in the championship, will start the 500-lap race in Bristol ahead of Joey Logano, who will take the second position after finishing third at Gateway and holding seventh position in the overall standings.
The championship leader, Denny Hamlin, will start from third position, followed by William Byron and Carson Hocevar, who complete the top five positions. Drivers not in the title fight, Alex Bowman and Ross Chastain, will also stand out at the start, occupying sixth and seventh positions respectively.
These conditions will complicate the recovery of drivers finishing further back in the grid. Among them, Tyler Reddick will start from the twentieth position, while Ryan Blaney will be the one starting furthest back among the title contenders, occupying the twenty-ninth position.
