Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing rider, has downplayed Raul Fernandez’s anger following the collision that took place at the first corner of the Mandalika sprint. Bezzecchi believes it was simply a racing incident.
In a complex situation at the start, Bezzecchi was the first to fall, causing his bike to interact with Fernandez’s Trackhouse entry, which was in prominent positions on the grid. The tension between both riders was palpable at the end of the race, with Fernandez sarcastically applauding his rival while he was in the pit.
After the incident, Bezzecchi insisted that there was nothing to complain about, as he considers the situation to be inevitable. He explained that he was trying to avoid problems, especially with Marc Marquez’s Ducati pressuring him from the inside.
“I just wanted to position myself as best as possible to tackle the braking. I knew Marc would try to overtake, and that’s why I didn’t want to risk falling at the first corner,” Bezzecchi stated.
Regarding Fernandez’s reaction, Bezzecchi pointed out that the Trackhouse rider touched him while advancing. “If Raul is angry, I understand, but honestly, he touched me. So there is no reason to be angry,” he concluded.
In relation to Fernandez’s applause gesture, Bezzecchi showed understanding: “It’s normal to have some reaction when you’re angry; perhaps in a normal moment, you wouldn’t do it. I’m the first to admit it!”.
Despite the setback that affected Bezzecchi’s title chances, he feels positive about his bike for the Indonesian GP. He recalled that this event left him disappointed last year and is determined to achieve a better result.
“I’m sad because we did a good job until an hour and a half ago. But I don’t want to waste energy on that. I want to focus on yesterday’s race,” the Italian rider closed.
