Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati rider, has expressed optimism ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix, stating that Sepang represents his ‘best opportunity’ to achieve a great result before leaving the team. With only 23 points gathered in the last six races, the Italian is determined to risk more during this competition.
Bagnaia has a great record at the Sepang International Circuit, with two wins in the last four races held in Malaysia. Last season, he secured pole position with his GP24 and won the sprint race, despite suffering the same issues that have affected his performance this year.
With the end of the 2026 season approaching, the three-time world champion views Sepang as an opportunity to regain some of the enjoyment he has lost this year. ‘I am really looking forward to driving here. I love the track and I think it’s the best opportunity I have to enjoy a bit more,’ he commented on Thursday.
The rider added: ‘I will give my best. I will risk more to enjoy. It will be very difficult, but last year I got pole and then won a sprint race despite having problems. This year is more or less the same, but I would like to enjoy.’
Bagnaia also highlighted that the pre-track tests were positive and expressed confidence in his vehicle’s performance. Despite the expected changes to the circuit, the asphalt has only improved in some areas. After the experiences in the Formula 1 competition in Bahrain, the rider hopes that the new medium tires will work properly, despite the challenges surrounding the track renovation.
With his eyes set on the podium, Bagnaia hopes to do his best this weekend.
