With its arrival in Formula 1 this year, Audi has exceeded initial expectations, closing the first part of the season with three consecutive results that have earned them points. The team director, Allan McNish, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the new team, which has recorded several appearances in the final qualifying group.
During the first 11 races of the season, drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto have managed to qualify for Q3 on five occasions. Currently, the team is in eighth position in the constructors’ championship with a total of 12 points, of which 10 have been achieved in the last three races.
The improvements introduced in the car in Austria, focused on low-speed corners, have facilitated considerable development, especially in the last Grand Prix in Hungary. McNish highlighted the importance of these updates and emphasized that a constant growth is perceived within the team.
Despite the good start, Audi still has areas to improve, such as the starting practices, which have caused position losses during the races, as was the case in Budapest. ‘We need to work on the starts, it is an aspect that has affected us,’ McNish commented, referring to how Hulkenberg lost positions after a disappointing start.
With the intention of increasing competitiveness, McNish states that despite the distance to the leading teams, confidence in the team’s potential is growing. ‘We are on an upward trajectory and we are determined to keep improving,’ concluded McNish.
