Aston Martin could feature as a safety and medical car supplier of F1 alongside Mercedes from 2021 season onward amid multiple reports.
An independent sponsorship spotter site named, Decalspotters, first broke the news about Aston Martin being in contention to be the supplier of safety and medical cars from 2021 F1 season onward, which was then picked up by mainstream media.
British sites like Motorsport Network, Racefans.net and others, joined in to report that Aston Martin and Mercedes would share the supplying duties of both the safety and medical cars at selected F1 events, spread out, depending on the market of the former.
It is likely to be a 50-50 situation still with one getting 12 rounds, while other to get 11 from the 23 grand prix set to take place in 2021 F1 season. FormulaRapida.net has connected with both Mercedes and Aston Martin, to get an official word, if any.
The news comes at a time when Aston Martin is set to compete as a F1 team after the rebrand of Racing Point, co-owned by Lawrence Stroll and co – who also co-owns the British carmaker. The company recently got into an expanded pact with Mercedes as well.
Daimler AG – Mercedes’ parent company – now holds 20 percent of Aston Martin shares in a new automotive deal. It is unclear if the recent changes has any bearing on the safety/medical car shift but it is very much possible in the current environment.
