The MotoGP season has reached its midpoint, and the concession system has recently been updated, determining the levels of technical support for brands over the next six months. This review has brought significant changes for Aprilia, Ducati, and Honda.
After the German Grand Prix, where we reach the midpoint of the 2026 season, Aprilia has managed to ascend to category B of a system that is now starting to prepare for the new technical regulations expected for 2027, a moment that will mark the beginning of a new era for all manufacturers.
In the last year, Aprilia has accumulated 72% of the available points, exceeding the 60% threshold necessary for category B. In contrast, Ducati has dropped to category B after being in category A since the introduction of the concession system in 2024. The Italian brand has achieved 84.5% of the points, falling short by less than a point of the requirement to remain in the highest category.
For its part, Honda has dropped again, now to category D, after accumulating only 31.8% of the points, below the minimum 35% required for category C. Yamaha has also been affected, with a maximum of 23.5% of the points, keeping it far from promotion.
News for Ducati
After two and a half years without being able to use wildcard riders, Ducati will be able to count on three available thanks to its drop in concessions. This will allow the Italian brand to use these riders for both its test rider, Michele Pirro, and for Nicolo Bulega, leader of the Superbike World Championship. Additionally, Ducati will increase its number of test tyres from 170 to 190 units, maintaining a single aerodynamic update.
In contrast, Aprilia will see a slight reduction in its test tyres, dropping from 220 to 190.
Improvements for Honda
Honda, however, will be able to conduct tests with its race riders, allowing it to increase the number of test tyres by 40 and enjoy open engine development.
The current concession system will end at the conclusion of the season, and starting in 2027, all manufacturers will begin in category B. The new 850cc bikes and the Pirelli tyres to be introduced represent a significant shift, as most manufacturers have already started focusing on developing the new prototypes.
The next opportunity for riders to test these novelties will be during the post-German Grand Prix tests, while the 2027 grid will be able to test the new bikes in Valencia on December 1st.
