Fernando Alonso has admitted that he would be tempted by a future return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, revealing that a future entry would be particularly attractive if he could share a vehicle with four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen.
The two-time F1 champion is no stranger to the world of endurance racing. During his brief break from the Formula One paddock, the Spanish driver achieved consecutive victories at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2018 and 2019 with Toyota, securing the World Endurance Championship.
At 44, he has also participated in IndyCar, but has ruled out a return to that competition.
Currently, Alonso is committed to his F1 campaign with Aston Martin and spoke about possible moves in other areas during an interview with F1 in front of his fans in Barcelona. “Indy? It’s not really on my mind right now. And Hypercar, I don’t know. It’s also not something I have firmly in mind,” he explained. “I would like to do the Dakar and win it someday. The challenge itself is what attracts me.”
“The triple crown is also very appealing, but the Dakar is, because if you manage to win in F1, endurance racing, and rally, it would be something with very few precedents.”
“I like the challenge. But Hypercar too, and the 24 hours of Le Mans were a very beautiful experience for me. Maybe someday I’ll do it again, especially if it’s with Verstappen.”
Aston Martin is currently working on significant issues with its 2026 machinery, with Alonso and his teammate, Lance Stroll, also undergoing a tough campaign. After the first seven races, Alonso is in 18th place in the drivers’ championship with one point, while Stroll is in 22nd place with no points.
Aston Martin is tenth, just ahead of Cadillac, which joined the grid in 2026.
