Alexander Albon says he thrives in situation like he was seen in F1 2023, always fighting for places and defending as well.

When Albon made his F1 debut, he was in a fighting position while driving for Toto Rosso. His performances in the first led him to a Red Bull seat. While that didn’t work out, but his return to Williams has brought back the fighting memories.

Being in a position where he has to calculate attack and defence is what helps him to thrive as he says. The 2023 F1 season was all about that for Albon. Most of the time, he was in defence mode due to the straightline advantage the car had.

He scored the bulk of the points to help Williams jump from 10th to seventh from 2022 to 2023. And Albon wants to credit himself somewhat for having a strong season. “I’m very proud of my performance,” said Albon. “I’m not the most arrogant person, but I will give myself credit that I feel like I’ve had a very strong season.

“I felt like most of my races haven’t been simple, they’ve been races where we’ve been fighting, fighting, fighting the whole time. But I enjoy it, I feel like that’s the environment that I thrive in and for me it’s been my strongest year in Formula 1. That connection I have with the team has really helped that, and I feel like that’s where we’ve been able to execute the races we’ve done so well in,” summed up Albon.
