The Super Formula has presented its provisional calendar for the 2027 season, with a return to the Suzuka circuit as the setting for the opening race. This news has been announced by the national federation JAF, which details seven weekends of competition.
The calendar for the upcoming year includes five national circuits and does not foresee any races abroad. Suzuka and Fuji will host two races each, while Motegi, Autopolis, and Sugo will be the third circuits on the calendar with a single visit.
Motegi hosted the opening of last season due to a rescheduling of the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, which was advanced. With the return of Formula 1 to an April calendar for 2027, Suzuka will regain its position as the opening of the Super Formula between March 12 and 14.
Motegi will be the venue for the second race, scheduled for mid-April, with Autopolis returning to its usual May date after having been rescheduled for this year. One of the significant changes is that the event at Sugo has been moved from August to late June, in an effort to implement a summer break similar to that of Formula 1, which will begin with the Obon holidays in Japan.
As a result, there will be a three-month gap between the July weekend at Fuji and the return to this circuit in October. The number of races scheduled during these seven weekends has yet to be confirmed by the Super Formula.
