The talks between F1 and City of Las Vegas is ramping up as per a report with Liberty Media pushing on to stage the grand prix.
The report from Sports Business Journal notes of the recent push from F1 side to put Las Vegas on the calendar within the next five years. In fact, journalist Adam Stern notes that an announcement may come in the first half of the 2022 season.
As per him, talks have accelerated in recent months whereby The Strip is being looked as the potential venue. They are assessing the exact specifics and also logistics to hold the race in the area which is 4.2 miles or 6.8 kilometers long.
The area is famous for the big shot hotels and casinos which will add to the flavour of a street F1 circuit in the heart of Las Vegas. The current push to add the race in the 2023 calendar itself, but should there be a delay, it will push it on to 2024.
F1 executives have visited the area multiple times in recent months and are in talks with the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and also the business people around The Strip, to understand their mindset about a race.
Chole Targett-Adams is the key figure from the F1 side along with LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill, who visited the US GP last October at Circuit of Americas. Should Las Vegas make it in, it will be the third grand prix in the country in recent time.
The Austin venue has become a fan favourite, while Miami is ready to join the circus from this year, with Las Vegas becoming a third one. The last time F1 came here was in the 1980s when the grand prix took place in the parking lot of Caesars Palace.
