Anglo-Danish racing driver Emil Bernstorff will join Carlin’s GP3 Series team for the 2014 season, becoming the second driver to be announced in the team’s line up. After two solid seasons in Formula Three machinery, including a podium at last years Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort, Bernstorff moves up to the GP3 Series alongside already announced Carlin man, Alex Lynn.

20 year old Bernstorff has enjoyed a strong junior motorsport career; starting karting from an early age he then moved to British Formula Ford before finishing a close second in the 2011 ADAC Formel Masters season. Taking a total of five wins across the season Bernstorff then graduated to the FIA Formula Three Championship and later to German Formula Three where he took 6 wins and finished 3rd overall.

A BRDC Rising Star, Bernstorff will join Carlin for his first season in GP3, following a successful post season test with the team in Abu Dhabi 2013.  Bernstorff moves to GP3 as Formula Middle East Champion, having taken six wins in total last year.  Bernstorff will join recently announced Red Bull Junior Alex Lynn in the Carlin team – with both Brits looking to make an impression in what will be their rookie season in the series.

Emil Bernstorff said: ‘I’m pleased to be making the step up to GP3 with Carlin for the 2014 season. Carlin is a team I have admired for many years and it is great to be racing with them this season. I’m now looking forward to the official testing which starts at the end of March. Until then, we will be working hard to make sure we are well prepared for the first race.’

Trevor Carlin added: ‘We are excited to be working with Emil this season, he’s a talented young driver. Alongside Alex [Lynn] we have a strong team in the making and we will be looking to challenge for the championship.

‘Emil has already been to the factory and made a great impression on everyone here. We look forward to the rest of the season competing together.’
