Ben Barnicoat had confirmed he would race in the European Championship of Formula 3 on last October, but despite all expectation, he will race with the British team Hitech GP.

When he first announced he would race in Formula 3 for the 2016 season, Ben Barnicoat was said to go to the winning team Prema Powerteam. But as the time went, three seats at Prema Powerteam had been taken by Lance Stroll, Maximilian Günther and Ralf Aron.

The Racing Steps Foundation driver finally joins British team Hitech GP as he graduates from Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup of which he finished in fourth position.

The 19 year old British driver comments on his crooked way to Formula 3:

I can’t wait to start testing in earnest. It’s been a bit of a wait while contractual matters have been sorted but I couldn’t be happier. Hitech is a top team which has everything in place to succeed.”

The twice Mclaren Autosport BRDC award finalist says he is thrilled and excited to start a new challenge after winning the BRDC F4 Autumn trophy.

Oliver Oakes, Hitech GP team owner says:

“We are extremely happy to confirm Ben as part of our FIA Formula 3 line-up. We evaluated several drivers for the seat during the end of last year and Ben impressed us immediately in Jerez.”

For his rookie season, Ben Barnicoat will have the support of his experienced team mate George Russell to make him one of the best rookies of the field alongside his other rookie team mate Nikita Mazepin.
