Charles Leclerc kept Ferrari on top at the end of Day 2 running at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona F1 test with McLaren’s Lando Norris doing a good job in second.
Following on Sebastian Vettel’s quick time on Day 1 of the first Barcelona test of 2019 F1 season, teammate Leclerc kept the momentum in Ferrari’s side to top Day 2 with a best of 1m18.247s on (C3) compound, covering 157 laps in all.
Like Ferrari, even McLaren maintained his good form with rookie Norris ending up second with a best of 1m18.553s lap on the (C4) compound with 104 laps on his side as Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (1m19.206s) finished third using the (C3) compound, completing 59 laps.
The Dane’s day ended up early with a seat issue as simulator driver Pietro Fittipaldi drove for the last half hour. Another rookie, Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon slotted in fourth in his first official outing which did not start off well after an early spin.
The Thai driver still was able to do 132 laps and set his best time of 1m19.301s on the (C4) compound. On the same tyre, Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m19.312s) was fifth with 101 laps on board ahead of Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn used the (C3) compound to set 1m19.535s lap, undertaking 89 laps with Red Bull Racing’s Pierre Gasly (1m19.814s) ending up seventh with 92 laps from the Renault duo of Nico Hulkenberg (1m19.837s) and Daniel Ricciardo (1m19.886s).
The German did 95 laps with the Australian only managing 28 due to a rear wing issue. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (1m19.928s) was 10th from Racing Point’s Lance Stroll (1m20.433s) with Fittipaldi (1m21.849s) covering the 13 drivers.
Hamilton did 74 laps with Stroll completing 74 on his first run while Fittipaldi only managed 13 in the 30 minutes he got to drive the VF-19. Once again missing from the lot was Williams, who are racing against time to get their 2019 F1 car up and running.
