Audi announced the contract extension for Daniel Abt which will see the German compete alongside Lucas di Grassi in the 2018/19 FIA Formula E Championship in the new-for Gen2 machinery, which is making its debut next year.

“For me, it continues to be an honor to represent the four rings in Formula E,” said Abt. “I am delighted about the trust that Audi and the entire team places in me and am trying to give my allto reward this trust with good results.”

The 25-year-old has been with the team since the inaugural season when it ran in tandem with Abt Sportsline and Audi. However, the German manufacturer has since taken over as a factory outfit in the current season.

The German driver sits fourth in the drivers’ standings with 85 points to his name after claiming two wins in Mexico and Germany. “Daniel has been showing strong performances in succession this season and in my view has enormously developed further both on and off the race track,” said Dieter Gass.

“Formula E with new cars and changed regulations is at the beginning of a new era. With our proven German-Brazilian duo we intend to attack again.” The team also announced Audi DTM racer Nico Muller as its test and development driver, who is already doing simulator work for the German team.
