Racing Team Team Nederland has announced Nyck De Vries as its new driver. The 23-year-old Dutch driver joins the team from his country to participate in the next WEC championship. He will do so after this year 24 hours of Le Mans, replacing his compatriot Jan Lammers.
Lammers will leave his seat to De Vries after participating in his 24th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 61-year-old driver will also run the inaugural race at Spa. So, after the first two dates of the season, De Vries will race in the car of Frits van Eerd, owner of the team, and Giedo van der Garde, former Formula 1 driver. He will do it with the Dallara P217 of the team in LMP2.
The junior driver of Mclaren showed his joy after the signing: “I did not need a lot of time to say yes, I’m waiting for it, since it’s a prestigious project and it will be a great adventure. I still have not driven the car, but I’ve heard it is a great car and it looks very good”, said the 23-year-old who will combine his new WEC seat with the one he already has in Formula 2 with Prema team: “The calendar coincides with mine, because the second half of the season will be a little quieter since we do not go abroad.”
The debut of the Dutch driver will be in August at the Silverstone track. He will also participate in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2019, since the current season of the WEC has two 24 hours of Le Mans in the calendar.
