Alex Peroni has been announced as new driver of the MP Motorsport team to run a second year in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. The Australian leaves Fortec Motorsports, with whom he disputed his debut in 2017 and will move to Dutch squad alongside Christian Lundgaard, the only confirmed right now.
MP Motorsport has announced the name of the second driver who will run in their rows this coming season of 2018. After the announcement of the promotion of Christian Lundgaard to Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with the Dutch team, the new signing is Alex Peroni. The 18-year-old will dispute his second season in this series after leaving Fortec Motorsports.
Peroni finished last year in the tenth final position of the championship, although doing a great rookie campaign to achieve a valuable victory in the second race in Pau, France, starting from pole position. It was a great performance in the whole year, but the Australian also disputed three races of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC, without so much fortune.
His debut in single-seaters was made in 2015 with his participation in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, where he was in 14th position after 21 races. The next step in 2016 was to compete V of V Challenge Monoplace, where he was champion with 14 victories and 19 podiums in 21 races. In addition, he to dispute his first two races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with TS Corse, without adding points in either of the two races.
Peroni has high hopes for this season with his new addition to MP Motorsport:
“Eurocup competition is incredibly intense. So I am happy to be able to join a team as professional as MP Motorsport. I hope to build a strong working relationship with my new engineer so that we can get the maximum out of the car under all circumstances and be among the top drivers at the end of the year. Another factor was the team’s experience and success in a range of series, from Formula 4 to Formula Renault 2.0, GP3 and Formula 2.”
On the other hand, the team manager, Sander Dorsman, feels satisfied with the new addition that his team has made:
“Alex had a solid first year in Eurocup last year, and could have finished in the top five with a bit more experience and luck. So I believe together we should be targeting a top five finish in Eurocup this year. He is a welcome addition to our squad and we look forward to working with him into the future.”
