Lucas Auer takes the pole in Lausitz

The Austrian driver has been the fastest in the qualifying session thanks to his 1’16.193, time that will allow him to leave first in the race today. He was followed by Robert Wickens (+0.105) and Maxime Martin (+0.211).

Maxime Martin (BMW Team RBM) was the first to leave his box in these qualifying practice. However, the first to mark a time has been Mike Rockenfeller (Audi Team Phoenix) with a 1’22.0 that has quickly been lowered. After the first attempt and with 16 minutes to finish the session, Timo Glock (BMW Team RMG) was the fastest with a time of 1’20.2.

The times have dropped further as the session advanced, leaving Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG Team HWA) with provisional pole position with 12 minutes remaining with a time of 1’16.5. At the equator of qualy, the best time was for René Rast (Audi Team Rosberg), only eleven thousandth faster than the Austrian driver.

With two minutes to go, it was Robert Wickens (Mercedes-AMG Team HWA) who placed the best record with a 1’16.2. This mark has been lowered again by Lucas Auer thanks to his 1’16.1, which could not be surpassed. Maxime Martin was placed third at the last moment and René Rast was not able to recover the third place in the last lap timed.
