With more than 0.5s of margin to Alexander Albon, Charles Leclerc set his first pole position in GP3 and lead an ART GP top 3 with Nyck De Vries in third.

Charles Leclerc, after having dominated in-season testing and free-practice seemed to be the man to beat for pole position. Following his accident in free-practice, Giuliano Alesi had to step out of the car for the rest of the round. Nirei Fukuzumi was the first one to head on track. Leclerc was the first to set the pace ahead of his teammates Alexander Albon and Nyck De Vries.

Ten minutes into the session, De Vries went faster than his teammate while Leclerc was improving all his sectors and was the first to dip under the 1:20 laptime. Lots of drivers seemed to have troubles to warm their tyres as one could see a lot of oversteering.

As the drivers got back to the pits Leclerc was leading from Albon and De Vries. The Koiranen GP decided to head out during the mid-session break to avoid traffic problems as we saw in GP2. Matthew Parry was the fastest within the team with a sixth place overall.

With ten minutes to go, the drivers headed out once again for a final stint. Albon managed to go faster than Leclerc before the Monegasque set a storming lap, claiming three purple sectors, and over performed his teammate by seven tenths. Oscar Tunjo was the only driver who got problems with the yellow kerbs as he damaged his front wing between the two last corners. No driver was able to improve their time at the end of the session.

Charles Leclerc claimed his first pole position in GP3 Series with more than half of a second of margin to Alexander Albon. Nyck De Vries finished third ahead of Boschung, Fukuzumi, Parry, Tunjo, Dennis, Hughes and Ferrucci for the top 10.
