Lancia has incorporated drivers Martins Sesks and Teemu Suninen into its roster for a special test session aimed at optimizing its new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale model, ahead of the upcoming Rally of Finland.
The Italian brand has traveled to Finland to work on preparations for the tenth round of the World Rally Championship, which will take place from July 30 to August 2. This is a key opportunity, as the new car will debut at a gravel event.
So far, Lancia has achieved positive results on asphalt thanks to victories by drivers Yohan Rossel and Nikolay Gryazin in Croatia, the Canary Islands, and Japan, but it has yet to appear on a podium on gravel surfaces.
To improve the car’s performance before the competition, factory drivers Rossel and Gryazin have worked together with Sesks and Suninen, two experts on fast gravel roads. In defending their choice, Lancia highlighted the experience these drivers bring on familiar surfaces.
The first session was led by Sesks, a driver with sporadic participation in WRC Rally1 with M-Sport, who will return to competition in the Rally of Estonia before driving a Ford Puma Rally1 in the Rally of Finland. Suninen, on the other hand, took the wheel last Tuesday after finishing second in the Rally of Rome; he currently leads the European rally championship, with a schedule also in WRC2.
