Rinus VeeKay has once again shined in the IndyCar competition, registering a fourth place in the Honda Indy 200 held at Mid-Ohio. This performance marks his second result among the top four during the last three races, consolidating his reputation as a fierce competitor.
Starting from sixth place with his #76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet, VeeKay opted for an aggressive tire strategy, beginning with the softer alternate tires. He quickly gained two positions on the first lap and was one of the first to pit, switching to harder primary tires once the pit window opened for the 90-lap race.
In the second pit window, VeeKay found himself in third place and began to press drivers Pato O’Ward and Christian Lundgaard. Although a slow final pit stop prevented him from contending for a podium spot, he successfully defended his position against IndyCar champion Alex Palou, thus finishing in fourth place.
“The team did a great job,” VeeKay highlighted. “We put together a good strategy and, thanks to the race start conditions, we were able to advance and then make the changes in time.” This race not only represents a personal success but also the best result for the Juncos Hollinger Racing team on a road course since 2024.
Currently, VeeKay sits in 11th place in the championship with two appearances in the top five and four in the top 10. With a contract for only one season, the Dutch driver is in the spotlight during the IndyCar changing period, with several speculations about his future.
With such a competitive performance, just a few points away from the tenth place, his future looks promising. “Today we proved that, even though we are a small team, we can compete with the bigger ones,” VeeKay concluded, focusing on the immediate goal of continuing to improve in the upcoming races.
