Mercedes has confirmed that it will not proceed with its request to review the results of the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1, despite having previously submitted a Right of Review request.

On Friday morning, the German team made its decision public, asserting that after speaking with the FIA and Formula 1 management, they concluded that continuing to seek a review would not yield any positive results for the team or the championship.

Mercedes’ initial request was raised after the reinstatement of Pierre Gasly‘s third place, which was rejected due to two penalties for speeding in the pit lane. The error was acknowledged after a review that demonstrated that the measurements used to determine the sanctions were incorrect.

The situation became even more complicated for Russell, who also received an additional penalty, causing him to fall to the bottom of the classification. Mercedes director Toto Wolff had previously stated his low expectations regarding the possibility of overturning the sanction, but nonetheless, the team’s council decided to file their review.

Recently, Wolff admitted that after conversations with the FIA and Formula 1 management, it became clear that there was no possibility of canceling Russell’s penalty or receiving sporting compensation for this fact. This led Mercedes to withdraw its official request.

Despite the team’s decision, controversies regarding the results of the Monaco GP are not over. Currently, other teams like Red Bull and McLaren have lodged protests against the results, which are now being assessed by the FIA International Tribunal.
