After a notable performance at the Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has expressed that, despite the progress, Red Bull Racing has not yet reached its maximum capacity. “We are improving, but we are not the same as before,” said the Dutch driver in response to comments from McLaren’s chief, Andrea Stella, regarding the championship’s competitiveness.
In Miami, the competition proved intense, with Mercedes and Ferrari also in the fight for podium places. Red Bull, despite the improvements, could not achieve pole position, remaining just six tenths behind in qualifying, a significant advance compared to previous races where the gap was over a second.
The team’s director, Laurent Mekies, celebrated the progress, highlighting that the difference coefficient has been considerably reduced. After a series of technical improvements, including a new design of the chassis, engine cover, and wings, the team has been able to enhance its performance on track.
Verstappen, despite initially being disadvantaged by incidents during the race, again showed a strong competitive pace, executing dozens of overtakes that demonstrated the car’s potential. “Our staff has worked intensively and we have noticed a significant change,” Mekies added.
With an eye on the upcoming races, Red Bull plans to introduce more improvements, including weight reduction components before the Austrian Grand Prix at the end of June. “We still have a lot to improve and we knew that the competition would continue to advance,” Mekies concluded.
