Tom Dillmann and Jeremy Clarke have achieved victory at the legendary Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, competing in the Chevrolet Grand Prix with the Inter Europol Competition team. This victory comes as redemption after the challenges they faced in last year’s race, where Dillmann suffered a severe accident that resulted in a spinal fracture.
The drivers, starting from the privileged position with vehicle number 43, an ORECA LMP2 07, completed a race of 2 hours and 40 minutes over a course of ten laps, crossing the finish line with a gap of 9.796 seconds to the second-placed driver.
Dillmann, who had to undergo surgery in 2022 due to the injuries sustained, expressed his satisfaction with this victory: ‘I wanted to win every race. My experience from last year has not changed my goal, but it is a great story to have come back and triumphed again after such a difficult situation.’
The second place went to the Crowdstrike Racing by APR team, with George Kurtz and Alex Quinn, followed by the AO Racing team with PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron in third place.
Race Summary
The race started with Clarke leading the grid in the LMP2 category. In the GTD Pro category, Neil Verhagen from Paul Miller Racing got off to a good start from pole position. However, the race had a shaky start when John Farano went off track in turn 3, triggering the first yellow flag.
After the restart, Dillmann maintained a prominent position, and with the pit stops and driver changes, managed to consolidate his lead. A second accident involving Tobi Lutke and the tire barriers triggered another yellow flag, changing the dynamics of the remaining race.
At the halfway point, Dillmann had a margin of 1.2 seconds over Quinn, who had taken over in the race. With less than an hour to go, Dillmann made a quick pit stop that allowed him to stay in front, controlling the competition until the end.
During the last minutes, the team efficiently managed the final stops, and Dillmann crossed the finish line as the winner. In the GTD Pro category, the victory went to Ben Barnicoat and Jack Hawksworth from Vasser Sullivan, who have achieved two consecutive triumphs.
