Nico Hulkenberg is not worried about Sauber’s current F1 form as he thinks it only takes one development route which will put it in the midfield.

Having been in the midfield for long, Haas’ Hulkenberg says he knows the game inside-out as to how things work, which is why he doesn’t have troubles in managing his expectations and getting job done heading to Sauber in 2025 – even though sitting last in the 2024 F1 constructors’ standings.

Since Haas is on the up and Sauber is on the down, it will be a task for Hulkenberg to get things right with the Swiss outfit once he starts his journey after Abu Dhabi. The team will get support from Audi from 2026 onward – especially on the power unit side – but for 2025 they will have to get things done mostly on their own for most part.

But Hulkenberg is relaxed for now and knows that one right development direction will sort things out and Sauber-Audi will be on the up to join the midfield battle again, before embarking on the longer journey to the top. “I think not necessarily, most of my career I spent in the midfield, and I know the laws inside and out there,” he said to the media.

“And it just comes down to for them to develop, to put a better package on the road, which is what Haas managed to do over the winter. That will obviously be the target and the ambition for Sauber as well, to transform it over the winter.

“And then that’s obviously musing on the future, but I’ll see, what the car and the package is like once we start working there next year,” summed up Hulkenberg, who will be a big asset to Sauber with the experience alongside rookie Gabriel Bortoleto.
