Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson reckon it will be difficult to retake sixth in F1 constructors’ for Visa Cash App RB, but it is doable in the three rounds.
First, Visa Cash App RB lost sixth to Haas and few races down the line, they dropped to eighth after a miraculous Brazil GP weekend for Alpine. The double podium pushed them to sixth with 49 points, but with only five points advantage against Haas’ 46 and VCARB’s 44.
It was not a bad outing for Visa Cash App RB pair in Brazil either where they made inroads on Haas, but they were outdone by Alpine’s double podium. With three races to go, it will be a big fight considering that only six drivers in the top half are consistent in their run.
This gives the midfield teams four spots to play with, with as many as 10-12 drivers eyeing the spot. Both Tsunoda and Lawson agree that it won’t be easy since they will need some luck on their side to score well, but they think it is doable. “It will be very hard [to regain P6], lets see what we can do in Las Vegas and beyond,” said Tsunoda to media.
“We will do as much as we can, it is frustrating that they [Alpine] scored P2 and P3 [in Brazil], they got a bit of luck there. It is pretty annoying but it is what it is. If we have a better car in the next three races, we will maximise it.”
And Lawson added: “Yeah, I think, obviously, they [Alpine] made the most of this [of the weather to score double podium]. It’s very close – five points. It’s totally doable for us, so we’ll obviously focus on trying to score good points during the last triple header.”
