Maximilian Guenther led Day 2 of Formula E pre-season test in Madrid, with teammate Jean-Eric Vergne third behind Dan Ticktum.
Test Session 2 –
Maserati MSG Racing’s Jake Hughes led the way in Session 2 on Day 2 of the Madrid pre-season test from Jake Dennis (Andretti) and Dan Ticktum (Kiro). Day 2 of the Madrid test at the Circuito de Jarama saw morning sun and quicker times than yesterday afternoon’s opening session, with Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa’s best effort of 1m29.220s eclipsed by Maserati new-boy Hughes’ 1m28.604s. The Brit headed home Season 8 champion Dennis by just 0.081s with Ticktum a further three tenths back in third
Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein rounded in fourth, in the same ballpark as Ticktum’s new, Porsche-powered and freshly branded Kiro GEN3 Evo car. Stoffel Vandoorne – a new signing at Maserati MSG Racing – made it two in the top five for the Trident, and three champions in the top five, too. Sam Bird (NEOM McLaren) meanwhile, rounded out the top six despite an earlier trip through the gravel – the Brit forced into evasive manoeuvres on cold tyres.
The Teams’ and Manufacturers’ title winners Jaguar TCS Racing got their first laps in following their suspension from yesterday’s action due to their 2022/23 cost cap breach of the Formula E Financial Regulations. They struggled; with Nick Cassidy down in 18th and Mitch Evans 20th.

Test Session 3 –
DS PENSKE’s Maximilian Guenther topped the timesheets during the official afternoon test session in Madrid, with the quickest time seen so far this week in the GEN3 Evo cars. Maximilian Guenther managed a very quick time of 1m28.40s, enough to put him in the first place slot as the session came to a close. It was the second consecutive session where a STELLANTIS powertrain finished in the top spot, with Maserati MSG Racing’s Jake Hughes going quickest this morning.
Kiro’s Dan Ticktum was rapid in his Kiro Race Co car this afternoon to finish in second, with Guenther’s teammate Jean-Eric Vergne going third. The session got underway at 14:00 local time, with Kiro hitting the ground running with an early one-two result for the duo. Dan Ticktum, who has been with the team for the past three seasons during their transition from NIO to ERT and now Kiro, was quickest for most of the session.
The team, which was purchased by the Forest Road Company during the off-season, announced the temporary driver line-up of Ticktum and David Beckmann for this Madrid test, but both looked at home in their GEN3 Evo cars. Guenther has made the move to DS PENSKE for Season 11, but is familiar with the STELLANTIS powertrains from his two seasons with Maserati MSG Racing during GEN3.
In the final hour, he achieved the lap that would see him quickest of everyone all day with Ticktum just 0.031s off the pace. Beckmann finished the session in fourth, with Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara locking in fifth and sixth respectively. Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy ended up in seventh after a wobbly start this morning after his car came to a halt on track. Zane Maloney (Lola Yamaha ABT) ended up eighth, a promising start for the young rookie, with Jake Dennis of Andretti and Mitch Evans of Jaguar in ninth and tenth by the chequered flag.
