Marc Marquez obliterates MotoGP rivals after dominant pole in Aragon GP from Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP qualifying in Aragon GP at Aragon saw riders having to get to grips with a drying circuit. The overnight rain didn’t help which meant the lap times only improved after each run, where KTM’s Jack Miller (1m48.649s) led the way early on.
It was GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta in second from the other KTM of Brad Binder, VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo in the Top 5. The traffic didn’t help multiple riders, who were forced to pull out from their quick laps.
The last few laps saw the lead changed hands in a space of few seconds. Acosta went quickest with a 1m48.018s lap where Ducati’s Enea Bastianini jumped to second. But Binder had other plans to go quickest with a 1m47.958s lap.
He made it in Q2 along with Acosta, as Bezzecchi jumped up to third to be 13th and drop Bastianini to 14th. Miller was only 15th in the end after running at the front from a recovering VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio and Quartararo.
LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami was 18th ahead of Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez, Honda’s Luca Marini, Yamaha’s Alex Rins and Honda’s Joan Mir, to round out the 22 runners.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP qualifying in Aragon GP saw Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin fall early on in the session which forced him to hop on the second bike. There was no stopping Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez at the front after multiple quick laps.
He had a margin of 0.630s over Acosta after his 1m47.478s lap. Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was third after his first lap was cancelled due to track limits, with Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli slotting in fourth from Gresini’s Alex Marquez in fifth.
The second run only saw M Marquez improve further. He dipped into the 1m46s to set a 1m46.766s lap to secure MotoGP pole in Aragon GP with a margin of 0.840s over Acosta, who was 0.002s quicker than Bagnaia, coming through from Q1 to second.
Martin recovered from his fall to be fourth, only 0.034s behind Bagnaia as A Marquez was fifth ahead of Morbidelli and Binder, who had a decent Q2 after coming through from Q1. Trackhouse Aprilia’s Miguel Oliveira was eighth from teammate Raul Fernandez.
LCR had its day to be happy with Johann Zarco in 10th to give Honda some good moment, as he led the Aprilia pair of Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, where the latter was 3.760s behind the mighty M Marquez.
