Oliver Rowland has beat Vaxivière in the first qualifying practice in Formula Renault 3.5 at Spileberg. The British equals the 3 poles that the French got this season. The Lotus driver will start third behind his team mate Stockinger.
Unusual weekend but the same qualifying session time, 30 minutes for the 21 drivers that completes the field this weekend.
In the early minutes, the guys who led the practice sessions, Dean Stoneman and the Strakka drivers, led the field but immediately the battle between Rowland and Vaxivière took place again with the Frenchman on top before the tyre change.
When the drivers came back to the track for the final lap times with new tyres, Pietro Fantin (International Draco Racing) stopped his car in the pit exit, making a red flag situation.
When the green flag came back, Rowland and “Vaxou” kept fighting. But it was the Fortec Motorsports driver who takes the pole in front Stockinger and Vaxivière.
