The FIA Annual General Assembly passed multiple rules during its 2020 meet with a big decision on female representation at WMSC as F1 Cost Cap panel is also formed.
With the idea of inclusion and diversity, the FIA Annual General Assembly agreed for a more balanced representation of gender and race at the World Motor Sport Council and the Senate, going forward, to address the current imbalance.
The Assembly agreed to modify the composition of the WMSC by stipulating that it ‘includes at least three members of each gender from among the Vice Presidents for Sport and the members elected under Article 9.5 ii) of the Statutes’.
In a further boost for the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, it modified its internal regulations to provide for a woman to chair it. Its President is already by right a member of the WMSC.
As for the Senate, it was agreed to include at least one member of each gender among:
- The four members elected by the WCAMT
- The four members elected by the WMSC
- The four members proposed by the FIA President
Elsewhere, the F1 teams agreed to three names, who will be the judges in the Cost Cap Adjudication Panel from 2021 onward, until 2024. As per the regulations, the panel should have a minimum of six judges, which couldn’t happen unanimously.
Therefore, the General Assembly gave the Council a mandate to fix up the rest of members. The names of the selected three by the F1 teams are Tiran Gunawardena (Australia), Victoriano Melero (Spain/France) and Christopher Stoner QC (UK).
