Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time of the second free practice session in Malaysia. Kimi Räikkönen and Daniel Ricciardo completed the top 3.

Ferrari were unstoppable on the dry track, as they showed a very good pace from the beginning of the session. The Red Bulls were able to follow the Ferraris, but not close enough to challenge their lead. Räikkönen was 6 tenths behind his teammate, while the Red Bulls were 8 tenths behind. Alonso surprised once more by placing his McLaren on the top 5, just ahead of the Mercedes. Hamilton was P6, 1.3s off Vettel’s time, while Bottas was 1 tenth slower.

The session was stopped with a few minutes to go after a sewage cover punctured Grosjean’s rear tyre, causing him to crash. As a consequence, the drivers were unable to improve their lap times or finish their long runs.
