Max Verstappen has once again demonstrated his superiority in the motorsport world, completing the challenging ‘Max vs 100’ race at Silverstone in a record time. In just 14 laps, the Dutch driver managed to overtake 100 amateur karters, a competition that combined 37 minutes of racing and a track specially designed for the occasion.
The competition took place on a layout that combined sections of the Silverstone circuit with its karting track. With a lap time of approximately two minutes, Verstappen started the race from the very back, aiming to eliminate each competitor as he passed them. Once a karter was overtaken, they were out of the competition.
The amateur participants had equal karts and were given the advantage of a ‘fast lap’ during the first half of the race, allowing them to gain a bit of distance. However, this was not enough to keep the fury of the four-time world champion at bay, who managed to overtake 64 drivers on his first lap.
After the first lap, Verstappen felt optimistic: ‘When I saw where I had to start, I thought I was very far back. But after the first lap, I thought we were okay,’ he commented. This first impression was not wrong, as he continued to advance and passed 75 kartists on the fourth lap.
Verstappen continued with his offensive, and by the seventh lap, he had already reached fourth position. His ability to navigate through the chaos of the circuit mirrored his professional driving style, and bold maneuvers, such as cutting corners, were a testament to his skill.
Finally, he managed to surpass Zac Alsop, Jacky Martens, and Lewis Osler, closing the race with a spectacular overtaking at the penultimate and last corner. ‘The first lap was chaos, but then it was a matter of hunting them down one by one, and that was very enjoyable,’ concluded the driver.
