Max Verstappen has exceeded his own expectations during the karting challenge held at Silverstone, where he competed against 100 amateur participants. The event, called ‘Max vs 100’, took place last Wednesday and was organized by Red Bull.

The Dutch driver, four-time world champion, faced enormous competition that included content creators and other athletes. Verstappen started from the back position on the track and had to overtake all rivals in a maximum of 30 laps.

In a surprising turn of events, Verstappen only needed 14 laps, that is, 37 minutes, to complete the challenge. His explosive start was key, surpassing 64 rivals in the first lap and finishing his performance with a total of 84 overtakes in just five laps.

“When I was walking to the grid and saw where I had to start, I thought: ‘phew, it’s very far away,’ but after the first lap I felt we were doing well,” said an optimistic Verstappen. “If I managed the first two laps well, I knew the challenge would become more manageable.”

The driver demonstrated his quick reactions, different from those of regular drivers, as he managed to gain several positions at the start of the race. “You just have to act on instinct and trust the other competitors not to do anything crazy,” he added.

Verstappen has participated in numerous events of this kind organized by Red Bull since he debuted with the team in 2016, including all sorts of challenges, such as competitions with GT vehicles and even caravan races with former teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

The Austrian brand is known for its innovative events, and the 28-year-old driver didn’t hesitate to joke about future challenges: “Maybe next time we should have 200 competitors,” he suggested. “With Red Bull, there are always new and fun ideas, and I like to participate in all of this.”

Verstappen emphasized the importance of doing events of this kind and the enrichment it brings for him to remember everything he has accomplished in his career. “How can you create something like this? Racing against a hundred people. It’s really cool, and only Red Bull can do it.”
