This week-end takes place the second round of the season at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The first free-practice session of the week-end has been topped by Tom Blomqvist, the BMW driver, with a 1:23.941 lap time. He is followed by Edoardo Mortara and Timo Glock.

During this 30 minutes first outing of the week-end, the drivers have been very focused on what the team asked them to do and no yellow flag or interruption of session is to be reported. It is only quite late in the session that Tom Blomqvist managed to get on the top of the times, being the only driver under the 1:24’ lap time. The British driver has been the surprise of this session and will have to confirm his good pace tomorrow.

The second fastest driver of the session is the first winner of the season, Edoardo Mortara with a 1:24.042. Let’s remind that he claimed his only DTM win of the season on this track last year. Timo Glock takes third place with a 1:24.202, 0,261 slower than Blomqvist.

The fastest Mercedes of the session is Maximilian Götz ahead of Mike Rockenfeller. Three BMW follow with Marco Wittmann, Bruno Spengler and Antonio Felix Da Costa, who stepped out of his Formula E car for this week-end. Lucas Auer for Mercedes and Mattias Ekrström complete the top 10 while Paul Di Resta, championship leader, stands in P15.

What is interesting to note is how close the times are. Indeed, between Blomqvist’s time and Maxime Martin’s one in last position, stand only 1.852 second, most drivers only separated by less than one tenth between each other. This announces a particularly disputed qualifying session tomorrow.
