Daniel Ticktum has been named as the new ROKiT Williams Racing development driver for the 2020 F1 season.

Former Red Bull junior Ticktum gets another chance to be associated with a F1 team as he joins Williams in a development role for the 2020 season. He will fully immerse himself with the team, both trackside and also at the factory at Grove.

As part of his work, Ticktum will undertake simulator sessions – which has become a key part in current F1. He will attend two grand prix as well, which should be outside the FIA Formula 2 Championship calendar, where he will be racing for DAMS.

On the announcement, the two-time Macau GP winner, Ticktum stated: “It is a privilege to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy, especially given Williams’ incredible heritage in our sport. The time in the simulator and experience working with the team will prove invaluable for my development.

“Being fully integrated into the operations will be a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to assisting wherever I can.” At the same time, deputy team principal, Claire Williams, commented: “I am delighted that Dan, another exciting young British talent, has joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy.

“His ability behind the wheel has been demonstrated with back-to-back successes at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018. Dan’s technical expertise will prove invaluable to the team and we are looking forward to helping him grow and develop in 2020.”

Ticktum is the new addition to Williams after the team promoted Nicholas Latifi to a driving role for the 2020 F1 season. He joins Jamie Chadwick to have a junior role as Roy Nissany is looking for a similar programme after testing the car in Abu Dhabi.
