The rookie Carlos Huertas surprised everyone in a thriving courses that started late because of the rain.
Simon Pagenaud started from pole position followed by Castroneves and Dixon, but the French spent too much in this position since Sato passed him on lap 5. James Hinchcliffe led much of the race with the rain, but accidents and yellow flags turned it into a competition strategies.
The first accident was caused when Aleshin was trying to unfold Sato, but the Russian collided with the Japanese and both drivers had to leave after going into the wall. A shame for Sato, who had led 22 laps and was fighting for first place with Hinchcliffe. Soon after, in the revival of the race, Luca Filippi was trying out quickly to get to the last corner, but only managed to go against the wall.
The list of absents was completed by Newgarden and Conway due to mechanical and Dixon and Kimball by accident. Will Power had a horrible day, although he managed to reach the finish line with a lap after, starring in an accident when he was not doing a good race.
